Alcohol Testing

@Yorkdad can I ask what the circumstance has led to the numerous repeated tests? tia
Ridiculous allegations of alcoholism as one of many... to withold contact. I tried to get ahead as I knew there would be a section 7 recommendation by immediately doing peth tests to supply cafcass for their report proving abstenance which I did, which was extremely helpful to say the least. At subsequent DRA she kicked up such a fuss that to keep her happy a further few tests until final hearing was ordered. Thought 3 months results of zero would have been enough to put it away...but hey ho. Works out worse for her in the end with 6 months of zero!! Can't argue with that...I'll be walking into court as clean a Baptist vicar!

Hi Yorkdad. Did you provide 3 clean peth tests at your FHDRA unprompted? Did they not suggest you do a hair strand test? Or because you provided the clean peth tests they disregarded the need for hair strands?

Yes that's right, favorable S7 on the back of my voluntary testing results during writing of report supported there was no evidence of drink issue. Went down like a fart in a lift and other side asked for at least 6 month hair test but refused in DRA. It was decided to keep her happy to continue a few more tests to final hearing half cost. Magistrates not really interested in historic levels as not helpful going forward.

That's really encouraging. My ex will definitely push me for hair strand tests. I've not drunk for a month now. So if I can bang out 3 months clean peth tests and take those to my FHDRA, should negate the need for hair strand tests? My cafcass call is on 17th. So might not have enough time to get 3 months clean. But maybe two. Dependent when they schedule the FHDRA after cafcass call.

I'm in the same situation as you. I will only have 2 peth tests by my FHDRA date. As my date was given before cafcass scheduled the call. My court date is mid Jan and my call is dec (next week).

Hoping the 2 peth tests negates a 6 month HST. But also, I don't want them to have reasons to delay interim contact.

Have you already done your first peth test? Do you think the peth tests will be enough for the judge to not order Hair Strand Tests? How much access did you have to your kid(s) before this all happened?

CAFCASS call Tuesday. First Peth test booked in for Wednesday.

I went from living together, to every weekend trying to make it work, to every second weekend after final split. Currently zero access for 4 months, and she called the police for harassment a while back before denying access.

I'm not sure on the HST. I guess it depends on the CAFCASS call and how hard she presses alcohol. We had social report last year which stated drinking by both parents, but was all positive and no issues. I'm sure they will use parts from the report for information.

So if my FHDRA comes before yours I shall let you know!

So it’s generally better to stop all together?

I have been going out to few work events recently, nothing crazy but 5/6 pints each time. Last week I went out twice.

I know 100% she will try this at the first opportunity she can.

Depends on your situation I guess and how likely the other person is to say drink is a concern.

I had my cafcass call, and nothing was mentioned about the kids. It was all about police involvement and of course her claiming I'm a functioning alcoholic and have been for many years.

The asked nothing about parenting, and are recommending a section 7.

I'm certainly glad I've booked in for my first peth test tomorrow.

I've thought about this. Isn't it a better solution and cheaper to book in a 3 month hair strand test? If you can provide a clear 3 month HST this surely will negate any concerns with alcohol?

It's a very good point. I'm going to enquire about HST and see how much they cost.

I knew the allegations was coming, but didn't expect the call to be all about them and nothing else. Feeling very deflated and defeated right now.

I got a quote yesterday from AlphaBiolabs. See below:

For the 3 month hair strand test – this will report as chronic and excessive or not chronic and excessive. This will require 3cm of head hair. Here are the cost:

Clinic: £590

At home: £635

Once sample submitted, 7 days for results.
