Sharing CAO with school

Hi all,
Is it OK to share a copy of the CAO with my childrens school? Writing today to make them aware of the change in schedules and the 'lives with both' order.

Thanks

You need to be very careful sharing court orders - on the face (front page) of the order there is likely to be a confidentiality statement. Read it carefully and check the published guidance.

If you do share with the school, the copy should be 'redacted' so that only the relevant parts are shown - ie black boxes covering any details which do not relate directly to what the school needs to know.

I tell you what I do hate schools' mentality sometimes - they just assume mother is primary carer and call them in every instance rather than trying you first ever, so as a minimum I'd probably let them know days you have them as last thing you want is on your days mother gets called to pick them up for whatever reason and jumps in when it should be you caring for them...

My partner asked for expressed permission from the court to share the CAO with the school. It's probably wise, although it's not unreasonable to share it with professional bodies involved with your child.

I don't believe that you should or need to share the CAO.

A letter stating that you are letting the school know that the Court Order dated xxx states that your child lives with both parents. Summarise the schedule for them and that they are welcome to contact you if they need any further information.

Ash wrote a good example of the tone that you could adopt - polite and clear - on the thread 'forgiving the unforgivable'.

Just copy and pasting Ash’s letter from the aforementioned thread (certainly not in my capabilities to be this professional when it comes to child matters, too much emotion for me, so massive thanks to Ash):

Dear Mr/Ms Headteacher

Re: CHILD NAME AS HEADING

I have some concerns that my son xxxxx, has apparently been having private meetings with staff, which I have not been informed about. I believe you are aware that xxxxxxxx lives with both his parents, under a court order dated xxxxxxxxx (attached). As such both his Mother and I are "the parent with care" and should both be kept fully informed about matters relating to xxx child name. As part of court proceedings it has been established that there are no welfare issues relating to either parent's care of xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and the issue of the "lives with both parents" order verifies this.

If xxxxx is having any problems in school, please can you let me know. It may be that you are offering him some support if he is struggling with something, and if so perhaps you could let me know. I can by contacted on this email or by mobile phone on xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. I look forward to hearing from you, or alternatively I could come in to see you to discuss the matter.

I also request that you do not discuss my email with xxxx's Mother and treat this matter in confidence as I do not wish xxxxx to be caught in the middle. His Mother and I unfortunately do not communicate easily so all information, newsletters, reports etc, will need to be sent to us both separately.

Yours sincerely,

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Going the extra mile 😊

as my ex will try to deny the details of my CAO, the order explicitly states it can be shared with all those who have reasonable expectation to see it, by either or both parents.
