Some solicitors are allowed to represent you in lower courts. With additional qualification they can appear for you in higher courts as Solicitor Advocates.
But,
@Dad100789 is right. Representation in court is really the domain of barristers. If anything, switching to a barrister is probably an upgrade.

Has the solicitor told you there will be additional cost due to instruction of a barrister?
If so, it might be worth comparing to a Direct Access Barrister.
