CAO proposals - school holidays

I'm trying to formulate a plan for school holidays for my final hearing. Schools are in term for 39 weeks a year and I would have to take time off work. So having my child for half of holidays wouldn't work, I simply don't have that much leave and although my work is flexible, taking all that time off isn't going to be accepted. How have others approached this or found solutions ?

You don't have to take time off during every holiday. You can use childcare clubs, or have grandparents have them for the day eg, but means you're still coming back to them after work and for the evening and week-ends.

For example half term is a normal week-end with 2.5 days tacked onto the week-end. So that would only mean taking 2.5 days off work - or if unable to take the time off, having relatives help out during the day or a child club during the day. They sometimes enjoy these holiday clubs and you just pick them up later.

Summer holidays are a bit trickier - it's usually a two week and 1 week block each. But again you don't actually have to go away on holiday for all of it. Christmas and Easter are a week each (or just over a week each depending how you word the order - ie whether the holidays start on the last day of term or after the last week-end of term).

It worked ok for me as I'm self employed.

thing is, I live 300 miles away with an ex who is alienating and won't cooperate with arrangements.

The holiday dates would need to be defined in the order with exact dates and times for holidays starting an ending. So she has to follow that - if she doesn't it's a breach. So it would be something like

And half the school holidays as follows:

Half terms:

Half of each half term with each parent, commencing from the last day of term, with consecutive days and changeover midday on the Wednesday, keeping to the usual week-end schedule.

Easter and Christmas holidays:

1 week with each parent, commencing with the first Monday after term ends. Weeks to alternate annually. Week 1 with Father and week 2 with Mother in 2025 and odd years.

Summer holidays:

Commencing with the last day of term, if it is a Friday, the holidays to run from school with changeover on Fridays at 5pm. If the last day of term is any other day then the holiday schedule commences on the first Friday after term ends at 5pm, with any days preceding that forming part of the usual term-time schedule: Weeks 1 and 2 with Father, weeks 3 and 4 with Mother, week 5 with Father, week 6 with Mother. Any additional days to be shared between the parties.

Early May Bank Holiday: This will form part of the usual term-time schedule.
