Barrister or solicitor

Hello all after some quick advice on what might be best I've my first hearing coming up so I've started looking around for a direct access barrister to represent me I've found one who's wanting £1200inc for the hearing my solicitor who I basically just used for advice at this stage is wanting £1000 Inc , I know from here barristers tend to be better than solicitors but does £1200 sound right I thought they where alot more money any advice is welcome thank you
